What you'll need
- Water: use cold, filtered water.
- Sugar: I use white cane sugar.
- Blueberries: I opt for fresh blueberries! Frozen should work just fine but they may not be quite as juicy.
- Fine mesh strainer
- Small pot
How to make Blueberry Simple Syrup
1. Add the cold water, sugar, and fresh blueberries to a small pot on high heat and bring to a boil.
2. Reduce the heat to a simmer and use a muddler or the back of a spoon to mash the blueberries slightly to release the juices. Simmer for 5 more minutes, or until deeply purple.
3. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer. Use the muddler or a spoon to help the liquid through the sieve. Cool and use immediately in your favorite cocktail or mocktail, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for later use.
Storage tips
After straining the syrup, allow it to cool completely before storing it in an airtight container, preferably glass, in the refrigerator. When stored properly, it can last up to 3-4 weeks.
