Key Ingredients
- Strawberries: opt for fresh, not frozen strawberries, for the freshest taste.
- Basil: mint would be a fun substitute!
- Lime: Use freshly squeezed limes and not bottled lime juice.
- Tequila: I highly recommend using 100% agave tequila.
- Cointreau: Cointreau is my favorite orange liqueur, but any orange liqueur will work.
- Agave: I recommend using agave over other sweeteners, but if your grocery store is out of it, you can give maple syrup a try as a substitute.
How to make this margarita in a big batch or pitcher
When serving this margarita at a party, I recommend making it in a pitcher to prevent needing to play bartender all night! To get the appropriate measurements, increase the volume in the recipe card below to however many drinks you'd like to make.
Add the strawberries, basil, and lime juice to a large pitcher and muddle them with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon. Add in the rest of the ingredients (apart from the ice) and stir. Fill the glasses with ice and pour in the drink and serve!
Prep ahead tips
You can make this drink in a pitcher up to 12 hours in advance and keep it tightly covered in the refrigerator. Don't add any ice to the pitcher as it will melt and water down the drink too quickly. When you are ready to serve, rim the glasses with salt, if desired, and pour over lots of ice.
